A New Outbreak "The Coronavirus"

The coronavirus is a new strain of a family of viruses that has developed in China in the city of Wuhan. The World Health Organization has declared coronavirus a public health emergency of international concern. There are more than 9,700 cases worldwide. The outbreak has reached 20 places outside of China, including India and the Philippines. However there is only a risk of being infected if you come into contact with a person who recently traveled from China in the past 2-3 weeks before January 29th. The UK, US, Japan, and several other countries are working to fly their citizens out of Wuhan. This is a developing situation and there hasn’t been a major outbreak of a diseases like this in many years. Here are some tips to avoid getting sick in general but especially to avoid contact with this virus. Provided by the CDC (Center for Disease Control).

 

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Stay home when you are sick.

Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
